The Building Blocks of Our Game

Here’s how Beacon works—everything is built on two core elements that make local government discoverable:

Spaces = Physical places where civic life happens

  • City halls, libraries, courthouses, community centers
  • Players explore these virtually or in person
  • Example: Milwaukee City Hall – where the mayor works and council meets

Beacons = Information layers that residents add to the map

  • Elected leaders, public meetings, historical markers, landmarks, etc
  • Players and community members contribute this knowledge
  • Example: “Mayor Johnson, Term 2024-2028”
