Polish Chicken Mural

The Polish Chickens mural is downtown Stevens Point’s most recognizable landmark. The “Polish Chicken” is a real breed—officially called the Polish—with distinctive fluffy crests of feathers on their heads. They’re visually striking and culturally significant.

Polish immigrants played a crucial role in Stevens Point’s development, particularly in the lumber and agriculture industries of the late 1800s and early 1900s. This mural celebrates that heritage and has become an unofficial symbol of downtown itself.

This is the last remaining of five murals that were painted for the city’s bicentennial in 1976.
