Beacon is a real-world learning game that transforms your community into an interactive game board. You’ll explore local landmarks, discover history and civics in action, and share your own observations by creating Beacons. Whether you’re playing with a class, a team, or on your own, Beacon turns everyday locations into opportunities for discovery.
Spaces are significant real-world locations such as city halls, libraries, parks, or museums. Quests may send you to investigate them. Some give you XP or refill your Energy when you visit.
Beacons are snapshots of what’s interesting or important.
They’re posts created by players and added to the map at real-world locations.
📌 To create a Beacon:
Tap the ➕ button
Pick a Beacon type
Add a title, image, and short description
Publish it to the map
Beacons are unlocked by visiting new Spaces and completing Quests. Examples include:
🖼️ A photo of a local mural with a caption about its artist
🗿 A story about a community monument
📰 A scanned newspaper article from decades ago
Tip: Avoid duplicates and low-effort posts—those can cost you points!
Quests are your missions in Beacon.
They guide you to specific places, give you tasks to complete, and help you earn points, badges, and unlocks.
✅ What you might do:
🏛 Visit City Hall and identify your mayor
📚 Find a historical document at the local library
🎤 Attend a public meeting and report what you saw
Tip: Completing Quests unlocks new Beacon types, gives you Energy, and helps you earn badges.
Some Spaces or Quests include trivia questions or small tasks. These earn you XP and sometimes unlock new content.
Energy powers your actions in Beacon. You’ll spend and earn Energy (E) as you explore, create, and interact. XP (experience points) help you level up and track your impact.
